You know what I hate? At least, right this minute?
One of those web pages that contains a list, possibly searchable, of some great quantity of things, which it displays twenty or fifty to a page. This list spreads across, say, hundreds of pages. And above and below the list, it will have links like:
Page < 1 2 3 ... 678 689 680 >
They have those at NaNoWriMo, and I was noticing them at NationStates as well.
And you know what bugs me about them? There's no really good way to get to the middle of the list. You can often search for something specific, but if you want to browse, you have to start at the end, or the beginning. You can probably go a whole three pages forward or backward at any given time. But I often like to browse somewhere in the middle of things. Especially if the list's sorted alphabetically...
This must be some kind of standard software, supplied with those bulletin board forums that both of those sites have, among many others. If so, I should contact the suppliers of this software and make a wee suggestion for greater browsability. Maybe just a box where you can type in the page number. (At NaNoWriMo you can edit the URL and select an arbitrary page that way, but at NationStates it's all enframed, so no dice.)
