Well, our dishwasher has gotten fixed. It was an easy problem, just a few things clogging up the tubes, and it didn't set us back much, either. Good, because I was tired of washing cutlery and plates.
Unfortunately, our bread machine seems to have died. Maybe not even the bread machine itself, but the interface between the knead bar, the bottom of the bread pan, and the bread machine, that's supposed to spin the knead bar around and mix the ingredients. Because they don't seem to be getting mixed.
I went out today to the place where we got the replacement knead bar a few years ago after it got accidentally thrown away in the heel of a loaf of bread that had gone moldy, only to find that West Bend parts are no longer available unless we write away to someplace in Winnipeg and order them. I don't see that happening, somehow.
I wonder how long ago they became unavailable. I'd thought of getting a new bread pan for a while now, because I've been unhappy with the bread that comes of that machine. I've started buying my own, multigrain bread. The bread machine bread seems to have some kind of unpleasant aftertaste to it that only I can detect, or something. Even the smell of the freshly baked bread I don't find pleasant. Before the bread machine days Nicole used to make her own bread, by hand, and that was good. Even the bread machine bread was perfectly fine for a while, but at some point I realized I couldn't stomach it any more.
So now we may be looking at getting a whole new bread machine. Fun. Well, we did get our tax refund, and those things shouldn't be too outrageous these days, right? Well, Nicole's gone back on her carbohydrate-reduced diet(not quite Atkins, as far as I know), and I've still got my multigrain. But Simon won't eat my bread, and I don't know if Luke is too keen on it either.
In other news, I just started my second NaNoWriYe session, with a whopping 645 words. Doesn't sound like much, but that's a hundred words over my quota. We'll see how long I can keep it up.
