You know, I've decided to do these things every week, but it's sad that I've only done one other post since the last lyrics quiz. I'll try to do better before the next one.

This quiz is now closed, despite its paltry response. Let me know if there's any that you should have gotten...

1. I feel the blood of a reptile run through the veins of a child
I trick my eyes, trick my memory--will the beast shed his skin in the world?
Rupert Hine, "Eleven Faces"

2. Do you have to be so distant, how can you be so unreal
What's your reason for hiding and how does crying make you feel
Mike Oldfield, "Talk About Your Life" (Nicole almost got it, she was so close, but couldn't get the title...)

3. When the samba takes you out of nowhere
And the background's fading out of focus
Yes the picture's changing every moment
And your destination you don't know it
Roxy Music, "Avalon"

4. Swirling patterns over me, orange and yellows fade to grey
Forever changing I'm not there, someone no one it's a dream
Go Four 3, "Kaleidoscopes" (It's true that I didn't expect anyone to get this one.)

5. The echo of a skip of a rock on a lake
The beating of a heart that's about to break
The gift was given, but he could not take
Ann Mortifee, "The Companion"

6. In Malta, catch a swallow for all of the guilty to set them free
Wings fill the window, and they beat and bleed
They hold the sky on the other side of borderlines
Kate Bush, "Night of The Swallow" (But I expected someone to get this one, somehow...)

7. There's something due any day, I will know right away, soon as it shows
It may come cannonballing down through the sky, gleam in its eye, bright as a rose

"Something's Coming", from West Side Story, [livejournal.com profile] fredfred

8. Beau said it was sabotage, so I laughed at him and said
"Mother wouldn't let that happen, Beau." But Beau was dead
Godley & Creme, "Joey's Camel" (Also a bit obscure, but near the top of my favourites list...)

9. I could get a job, I could pay the phone bills
I could cut the lawn, cut my hair, cut out my cholesterol

Barenaked Ladies, "Enid", [livejournal.com profile] fredfred

10. It's a very short road from the pinch and the punch
To the paunch and the pouch and the pension

"The Miller's Son", from A Little Night Music, [livejournal.com profile] fredfred

11. Life's not complete till your heart's missed a beat
And you'll never make it up, or turn back the clock
Prefab Sprout, "Goodbye Lucille #1"

12. Well I went today, maybe I will go again tomorrow
And the music there, well it was hauntingly familiar
Stevie Nicks, "Edge of Seventeen" (Not Fleetwood Mac proper, but it's a forgivable mistake.)

13. She turned, tossed her head, and she started to make her final exit line
She showed real disdain, as if explaining again she could be his for a price
Mike Oldfield, "Family Man" (Also covered by Hall & Oates, with slightly different lyrics)

14. They got a hundred squares on it, and they got a hundred numbers inside each one of them squares.
That's one number for each square, in case I'm confusing you.
Mojo Nixon & Skid Roper, "Chicken Drop" Though the math in this song has always bothered me. More later.

15. I can feel the heat, no one has to tell me
It's so good, once it starts I'll never let go
Steve Winwood, "Spanish Dancer"

16. I'm living in a neon house, I'm living in avalanche row, I'm living in hangover city
And all these unforeseen things tumble down

Shriekback, "Malaria", [livejournal.com profile] erikred

17. "Forgive me," is all that you can say
Years gone by and still
Words don't come easily, like "Forgive me"
Tracy Chapman, "Baby Can I Hold You"

18. Monica sighed, rolled onto her side
She was so impressed that she just surrendered
Brian Eno, "The Great Pretender"

19. It's spreading through your system like a virus
Yes the trouble in the end it makes you anxious
I was looking back at you to see you looking back at me to see me looking back at you
Massive Attack, "Safe From Harm"

20. When my whole life is on the tip of my tongue
Empty pages for the no-longer-young
And the apathy of time laughs in my face
You say, "Each life has its place."
Indigo Girls, "Virginia Woolf" (I was surprised that whoever got "Galileo" before didn't get this one too...)

Almost all from the 1980's, with two from the 90's, and two earlier. (Whoops, make that three earlier. And one artist appears twice. Mike Oldfield, of course.)
