Scrap

Yesterday I cleaned up the papers on my desk, looking for something specific, and then continuing after I found it. As is my wont, I put all of the paper only used on one side in a "scrap paper" pile. For years I've been using that kind of paper for scribbling. Between printouts of work orders that I've completed, sample data, and other odds and ends, I have...I don't know, several hundred pages of scrap paper. It looks like a good-sized manuscript, at least.

I don't scribble on scrap paper as much as I used to, though. I used to all the time, but over time I've come to scribble in text files a lot more. It's mostly more or less ephemeral notes, and most of the time I have a computer handy anyway. Not to mention my typing is more legible than my printing, and probably faster.

So the odds that this huge stack of scrap paper will actually get used are pretty slim. Nicole and I both accumulate loads of scrap paper at home, too, especially from her actual manuscripts, once she's made notes on the pages and entered them into the computer. When the kids want to scribble with crayons or something(which Luke used to do a lot, but not so much these days), then we'd get out the scrap paper, but otherwise they rarely get used.

Instead, when we move, we get most of our scrap paper together and recycle it, or try to. I seem to recall that when we moved up to Grande Prairie, we searched in vain for someplace to recycle it, and just gave up and tossed it in the trash. Now we've got the blue-bag recycling program, so that'll be easier next time.

How long I'm going to keep this pile of paper on my desk at work, I don't know. We've got pads of lined paper to write on, but I try to scribble on scrap paper when I can. Still, if it gets to the point when I can't see over it, then I guess it might be time to get rid of it.
