Triple-Sec
Oct. 9th, 2004 09:56 pmIn the eternal epic of slow deterioration that is our house, the latest casualty is the dryer.
First it was making squeaking noises when it ran. That wasn't too bad, though it was a little bit annoying when I was on my computer(the laundry room is in a nook off the computer room in the basement). Then the squeaking noises started getting worse, sometimes into outright screeching. We began to think that maybe we should get it fixed sometime. After all, we didn't want metal scraping against metal, throwing off sparks, and igniting our clothes and/or lint.
As of yesterday, we now have clunks, grinds and bangs to add to its repertoire of noises. It's disturbing enough that we can't bear to leave it running for more than fifteen minutes at a time. It's put a damper on our plans to do laundry this weekend. We managed a couple of loads yesterday, drying in shortened intervals, taking out clothes that felt dry and starting it up again an hour or so later.
I've never been quite sure how long it actually takes to dry clothes--I put our loads in for an hour, and Nicole apparently for 75 minutes. (Blame it on bad experiences with apartment building coin dryers that didn't get everything dry in an hour.) Now we'll see how little time we can get away with.
We're going down to Beaumont for Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow. I think we're going to be bringing our remaining laundry down there. We did one load today, of essential clothes, just so I won't have to wear my worst frayed pants for the rest of the weekend.
Tuesday we can try to get somebody to fix it. It may be something worked loose somewhere, or something rattling around inside the drum. I'm talking from a position of great ignorance, though. At least the computer repair bill was not too heinous. Not much worse than getting the car fixed, anyway.
