Still Just A Rat In A Cage
Mar. 22nd, 2005 10:45 pmLast night, when I was going to bed, about 11:30, I noticed that the light outside was kind of odd. I peered out the patio door in the kitchen into the backyard, and saw that the sky looked a fuzzy orange-gray. It was obviously the light from the streetlights. My first thought was that Edmonton was so definitely not the city of no light pollution. There isn't a streetlight that shines down onto our backyard, but there is a light from the parking lot of the apartment building behind us.
We've been getting a lot of snow over the past few days(I had to shovel 4-5 inches off the driveway this morning), and I suspect that the light from the streetlights was reflecting off of the snow and then reflecting again off of the cloud layer, which was, after all, doubtless made up mostly of snowflakes and ice crystals.
It wasn't quite bright as day, but it certainly seemed much brighter than an overcast night should be. Even one lit by streetlights.
I got to work half an hour late this morning, after the snow shoveling and much slow traffic. It's nice to know that there is a good side to having so much snow.
