Moonlight & Vodka
Sep. 7th, 2005 10:40 pmOkay, thanks to Derryl Murphy, a link to something called LibraryThing. It's basically a web site where you can store your book database--or any book database, really, it's not like they're going to check whether you actually possess it. It searches the Library of Congress, and resorts to Amazon(you pick the country)if it can't find it, and, failing all that, you can enter the data yourself.
So I set up an account there("alfvaen", of course), and I'm entering...well, not my entire catalogue, all 3500-odd of them, but just for a lark I'm entering everything within arm's reach. So it's a weird cross-section. Hey, should that be a meme? "List all books within arm's reach"?
Of course, this information is now publicly accessible, and stored for who knows how long and who knows where, so if you're paranoid about your book collection, don't use it. I'm not. I'm sure I'll eventually get bored with it, since I already have a perfectly good database, but it might be nice to have an online backup.
