Party Girl
Jan. 13th, 2007 10:16 pmWhen I started trying to do daily posts, I made up a list of possible topics for posts. Now I'm down to the last one of them, and it's not something I really feel like doing tonight, so I guess you get something more of a ramble about Sims 2.
I spent almost the entire afternoon playing it. First the "Twip" family, which I created at my sons' direction. The family consists of Beep & Hrududu Twip, their son Honk(now grown to a teenager), and their new son Zoom(currently a toddler on the verge of transitioning to child). They had some money problems at first, especially as Hrududu kept having job problems because those silly career chance cards. I should check and see if there's a guide somewhere to how to answer them correctly--if there is a right answer for all of them, because I've run into one of them twice already, and while one answer resulted in either demotion or firing(I can't remember which), the other resulted in a hefty fine, so maybe it's more random than that. Which would IMHO be annoying.
I've also been trying to go through the families in the Pleasantville neighbourhood. I've broken up Cassandra Goth and Don Lothario; Cassandra is now married to Darren Dreamer. I find it interesting that, with the marriage taking place at the Goth house and Darren moving in, he has now taken the name Goth. Boy, Sim society sure is egalitarian. Dirk Dreamer, Darren's son, retains his own name, though. The wedding party was a great success, though I was surprised at how much snogging was going in in the teenage contingent, since I left them all with free will on and didn't micromanage because there was just too much going on. Specifically, Dirk seems to have a thing for Lilith Pleasant, the bad twin in black lipstick, while Angela Pleasant, the good twin, is going out with Dustin Broke, the budding criminal from the trailer-trash single-mom family. Mortimer Goth, meanwhile, seems to be smitten with one of the Caliente sisters, can't remember which one.
I then spent a day or two with the Pleasant family. I elected to rekindle their spark, giving the husband(Jeff?) one last fling with the maid(who's also WooHooing with Don Lothario, the shameless hussy). They're on the verge of elderhood, so I decided not to try for another baby or anything. I'm also trying to straighten up Lilith a bit, making her do her homework, not sneak out with Dirk, and I even had her Apologize to her mother. And if all goes well I'll have her follow her mother into politics. I'm also kinda looking forward to having the next generation pair off, get married and move out, which is why I'm trying to play all the houses so all the teens get to grow up around the same time.
So today I was playing the Broke family. They're pretty badly off. Brandi Broke has two kids, Dustin(the budding criminal), and the toddler Beau. When you start off, you only have two days to teach Beau to talk, walk and use the potty before he transitions to child. I almost managed it, but Beau was too tired to finish his potty training in time. Brandi is unemployed, a stay-at-home mom I guess, leaving Beau to bring in the only money as a Street Hawker selling stolen goods, and that only 50 Simoleans a day. (I haven't really investigated the possiblities of teenage jobs before; I'll have to figure out how they work.) Toddlers run out of energy quickly, but gain it back quickly too, so you have to match your circadian rhythms to theirs, in other words not staying up too much when they're asleep, which unfortunately was a mistake I made with Brandi, so I had to hire a nanny for the second day. Maybe I should've just hired a nanny in the first place and tried sending her to work, but oh well. And then, somehow, she turned out to be pregnant. By who? Her dead husband? He's the only "WooHoo" recorded in her memories, so it must be him. Unless she was abducted by aliens or something. I guess when the baby's born, I'll examine its family tree and find out.
Anyway, I messed them up a little, so I decided the best way to rescue them is to marry Brandi off to someone rich. The Pleasantville neighbourhood is a little understocked with eligible bachelors, though. I've moved Don Lothario in with Romilda Hawtie, they're actually engaged, and they'll get married as soon as I can manage it without crippling their Aspiration Points(either when it disappears off of both of their Fears list, or when they've got enough stored up to cushion the blow). Darren's married Cassandra. And everyone else is in a committed relationship, or still a teen or younger. So I decided to create a new guy and move him in. I almost named him Michael Bachelor, just like the guy in the original Sims, but then I seem to recall that that name is supposed to be in somebody's family tree, so instead I grabbed the first name I could find, "David Harp". (From the harmonica instruction book sitting on my desk. Yeah, I got a harmonica for Christmas. Learning to play it is still on my "to-do" list.) I bought him a nice house, too big for him but hopefully just right for a soon-to-be-growing family, and got him into the Medical career so he can be a doctor and everything. Brandi luckily showed up for the "welcome to the neighbourhood" party, so they've already met and chatted on the phone, and are well on their way to being friends. I'm sure David will take pity on the poor pregnant single mom and make an honest woman of her sometime, even though they're not his kids.
I keep meaning to take SimPE and go and rename the NPCs so they're not the same ones in every neighbourhood. I mean, "Goopy GilsCarbo"? Seriously? I plan on skimming through my latest Onion collection and grabbing some "area man" names from there. Except that maybe I'll only do it to the ones that nobody's met yet? Well, we'll see. As long as it's not too confusing to me, I'm sure they won't notice.
