Well, it's a little dusty, but it's still here...

This weekend I've been reading John Scalzi's "Whatever" column books, You're Not Fooling Anyone When You Take Your Laptop to a Coffee Shop: Scalzi on Writing, and Your Hate Mail Will Be Graded. I don't actually read his blog, but now I'm actually considering it. And, more importantly, I'm considering actually resuming blogging myself. Whether I will return to trying to actually keep up on reading my friends' blogs, I don't know, but we'll see what I can manage.

I think this blog gets autoposted to Facebook as well, but for those of you who haven't been keeping up with my on Facebook (or in real life), let me try to summarize the last year and a half or so...

Last time I posted, I was looking for work as a result of my decade-long job disappearing from under me. It was actually quite nice that, before the end of October 2008, I had a job, thanks mostly to [livejournal.com profile] iamo, at Nexopia, a teen-oriented social networking site in Edmonton. I worked there for three months, from November to January, and while I'm sorry it didn't last, I had a fantastic time working there, and I made (I hope) some good friends.

By February I was job-hunting again, and before the end of the month I had a choice between two offers--one close by, with another web company, and one farther away (out in Spruce Grove, to be precise) with a more desktop-oriented software company. I chose the shorter commute, basically, and as of now I am still gainfully employed at Investopedia.com, a company whose website offers definitions of financial terms, helpful articles on financial subjects, and a stock market simulator. It's been a sometimes challenging year, but it's a decent enough job, all told.

Jinian is now two years old and acting it, though she's still better in that way than the boys were, all told. Simon is still reading up a storm--I've been reading him the Wheel of Time series, and we're up to Lord of Chaos, the sixth book, and he reads enough on his own, too. Luke is getting into soccer; he played indoor soccer over the winter, and is going to play outdoor this spring. He's not nearly as much into books--we may inadvertently have given birth to a future jock. Well, at least it's not hockey.

I'm still playing the Sims 2 semi-compulsively, but I'm blogging about that over at Wordpress these days, so you won't see much of that here. I'm also on Facebook, as I said, and on Twitter as alfvaen, but I confess I don't post much there either. I also must confess that I got sucked into Farmville, though I try not to let it dominate my life too much.

The rest of it I should perhaps save for other posts, if I'm going to try any kind of semi-regular schedule. Plus I should get to bed soon. Hopefully I'll be back soon, and this won't just be another spasm of a dying blog. Because I know those are really annoying to read.
