A Thing That Can't Be Found
May. 17th, 2010 10:34 pmThis morning I woke up at 6:00, about an hour earlier than my alarm was set for. My nose was stuffed up (allergies--I remember when I didn't have allergies, or at least didn't think I did), my new mouth splint (my plastic pal who keeps me from grinding my teeth at night) was making it hard to breathe through my mouth, and Jinian was upset about something. Sunlight was leaking through the blinds that hang precariously over our bedroom window (seriously, every time I pull on the cord to open them a little bit, which is more of an effort every time, I expect the whole thing to come crashing down on my head).
I had been having a dream about being back at university, which is odd for me. I don't tend to have (or remember, at least) those kind of school or university dreams, where you don't know where your classes are or who your instructors are. The part I remember most vividly was standing outside on the snowy sidewalk (for it was in winter that our scene lies) waiting for the laundry bus. This was, apparently, a bus that brings you your laundry--clean, I hope, though it was unclear--and it was late, so by the time I had all of my clothes I was late for my classes. I walked back to the university in the company of a friend from high school, who turned out to be having an embarrassing amount of gas and was taking a different route than usual to her own classes. When I woke up, I had been trying frantically to find the name of at least one of my instructors in the boxes full of laminated schedules.
Jinian had, it turned out, gone to sleep without her "black kitty". Or possibly "bad kitty", we're still not quite sure. I located it easily in the living room and brought it up to her. She then went back to sleep (where she stayed until 8:00; she then went on to skip her afternoon nap and go to bed early). I took out my splint (rinsing and brushing it off carefully) and went back to bed. I may have gotten back to sleep, I don't know.
