Nowhere did I say that. Doing a cover version of another band's song is perfectly fine. When it comes to cover versions, I tend to think that recording it to sound exactly like the original is pointless(though live performances are okay). If you're going to cover it, then make it your own. That's one reason why I like John Cale's "Hallelujah"--it proves that Leonard Cohen wrote a good song, but he recorded an indifferent version of it.
It's when the same songwriter records the song again and does a much worse job the second time--that's what I don't like.
