alfvaenPicked up a copy of The Dose, the free daily newspaper that came out a few months ago. Mainly because it had "Why do you blog?" on the cover in big letters. Contains a plethora of printed blog entries, often in counterpoint to "real" news stories. As someone who's never felt blogging == news reporting, I find it interesting but unconvincing.
However, on the back it had an ad by MDG, a computer company which apparently is Canadawide(it's got mini-maps showing its location in a couple of dozen Canadian cities). As part of their "back to school sale", they're offering a very decent system--3 GHz processor, 1 GB memory, 160 GB hard drive, 17" LCD monitor, together with a free printer/scanner/copier, photo printer, and digital camera--for $697. The sale is on "Until Wednesday 7:30 PM"--I'm presuming it's this Wednesday, as in two days from now, so I'll have to make up my mind fast.
I don't really care about the free stuff, though I'm sure my wife wouldn't mind another printer to supplement her aging laser printer. And a digital camera would be just fine. But even without all that, that's a system I'd be perfectly happy to own, and the price doesn't seem too outrageous.
It's just the logistics of it. I wouldn't want to try to buy it on Wednesday evening, at the last minute. Ideally I'd like to go out during the day, actually, to minimize the crowding. And they might be out of stock, who knows. It's on the West End, so not particularly close by, but crossing town on the Whitemud doesn't take all that long. I still wouldn't want to try to rush over there after supper, or drive home from there at rush hour(when the Whitemud is less than a smoothly-flowing freeway). I'll see if I can talk them into it at work. Or just take a long lunch, perhaps, I don't know.
