Man, we're not doing good at catching up with shows over the summer reruns. Of course, summer reruns aren't what they used to be, with reality TV all summer, and entire seasons on DVD, but it's still frustrating.
First of all, we missed the first part of the "Doctor Who" season-ender, which we discovered when we started watching the season finale on tape and quickly discovered it was Part 2. I just checked, and this Sunday's rerun is the exact same episode we have on tape, so we've missed it again. Grumble.
Secondly, "Veronica Mars" reruns on CTV have come to an unceremonious halt, with "The O.C."'s new season starting up. The last episode we saw looked nothing like a season-ender, and the last several all had gaps in between them, as showcased by the "Previously"'s. Now there's no sign of the show on the grid at all. We only started watching this show on reruns, and we missed the beginning, so this is just par for the course. Oh, well, I missed a lot of "Twin Peaks" the first time around, too.
Thirdly, we missed an episode of "Lost", with big revelations about Kate's past, and that show hasn't turned up on reruns either, that I've seen.
And let's completely leave aside the fact that I dropped "Desperate Housewives" and "House" from a sheer inability to keep up. I watched a few "House" reruns over the summer, but I couldn't even keep that up.
Part of me is desperately hoping for a deluge of reality TV so that I don't have to spend so much time watching he actual good television they're deluging us with. And we only have basic cable--if we got "Battlestar Galactica" and all that... Something tells me I'm going to be spending my retirement watching DVDs, in between trying to actually catch up on my reading. All I can hope for is for that retirement to come earlier than 2036.
