The Rainbow Collectors

I've been having a lot of fun on AI Dungeon recently, some of it doing actual adventury things, but others just playing with the AI.
Last night I saw someone else posting a "Song Generator" 'adventure' and thought I'd try it out. You supplied a song title and a genre, and then it tried to come up with the genre. Seemed right up my alley (not that I've ever actually written a song or anything, but I like songs and randomly-generated stuff), so I did a few. And I'm going to share them with you now.
First I tried a pop song named "The Moon Is Blue":
Song Title: The Moon Is Blue
Genre: Pop
Lyrics:
[Verse 1]
I wake up every day with the same concern
Where am I gonna get my next fix?
From a needle I've gone too far down this road
I'm living proof that addiction takes over
I'm waiting for my fix, and then I'll go back to bed
But I know it's gonna be a long night
[Pre-Chorus]
But I like to think that there's someone up there
And they know exactly what I've been through
I like to think that there's someone up there
And if they could help me get my next fix
[Chorus]
modern progressive rock song, sounds very 80s but in a good way. The bass and drums really help make this song too, the verses are very synth heavy but the pre-chorus and chorus really pump up the bass and drums to make it sound very catchy. The lyrics are pretty simple but effective, the singer is clearly a junkie looking for his next fix and knows that there is no chance of getting off the drug any time soon so he's waiting for the day he dies. The song really gets going in the bridge, the synths become distorted and the drums sound heavier as the singer begins to scream the chorus. The song then ends suddenly with a single high note.
It didn't seem to go the way one might expect, based on that title...but I am tickled by the way it suddenly turns into discussion of the song before it finishes writing it.
Next one I tried was a Rock song called "Reprehensible", since I was listening to the They Might Be Giants song by that title when I tried it. I'm not going to post that one, because all the AI did was start posting the beginning of Genesis 1:1. I'm willing to believe somebody has set that to music at some point, but...why call it "Reprehensible"?
Then I tried "The Illearth War", since that's the book I'm (re)reading right now, and I decided this should probably be a prog-rock song...
Song Title: The Illearth War
Genre: Progressive Rock
Lyrics:
[Verse 1]
Here I am again with my problems, yeah
Another dark and stormy night, oh no
She said she'd be here, but she's not yet come around
But I know she will, so I wait around
[Pre-Chorus]
I'll wait here until the morning light
My dear, if you're not here by then
I'll know that you're with me here in this life
And I'll hold you closer than before
[Chorus]
modern classic, the illearth war
Has broken out once more
For the glory of the kingdom, we shall reign
For the faith and for the fatherland
With a love that will never die
[Verse 2]
Here I am again with my problems, yeah
Another dark and stormy night, oh no
She said she'd be here, but she's not yet come around
But I know she will, so I wait around
[Pre-Chorus]
I'll wait here until the morning light
My dear, if you're not here by then
I'll know that you're with me here in this life
And I'll hold you closer than before
[Chorus]
modern classic, the illearth war
Has broken out once more
For the glory of the kingdom, we shall reign
For the faith and for the fatherland
With a love that will never die
[Bridge]
Oh, there's a fire within us
That will never die
Will it burn the whole night through?
There's a fire within us
That will never die
[Chorus]
modern classic, the illearth war
Has broken out once more
For the glory of the kingdom, we shall reign
For the faith and for the fatherland
With a love that will never die
So the chorus seems pretty prog, but the verses and pre-chorus don't seem to recall go with it. Could still work, perhaps, but not quite there yet.
Next I decided to try Country, for some reason, and came up with the title "The Rainbow Collectors". (A mashup of "The Rainbow Connection" and "The Butterfly Collector", I guess?) And this one almost seems to work.
Song Title: The Rainbow Collectors
Genre: Country
Lyrics:
[Verse 1]
Well you made a promise
To me and the children
And that's what you always do
But I know you like I know my own child
And sometimes you just don' wanna play nice
And that's okay too
[Pre-Chorus]
But you still hold the key to my heart
When you smile it's the sweetest sight
That I've ever seen
[Chorus]
And the rainbow collectors always take it all away
But the rainbow collectors always take it all away
But the rainbow collectors always take it all away
But the rainbow collectors always take it all away
[Verse 2]
Well it's been a year since we saw you
And oh how I miss your smile
The sound of your voice, all the things you said
But I knew you like I knew my own child
And sometimes you just gotta grow up
[Pre-Chorus]
You say that I'll be in your heart
But that ain't nothing compared to the way I feel for you
[Chorus]
And the rainbow collectors always take it all away
But the rainbow collectors always take it all away
But the rainbow collectors always take it all away
But the rainbow collectors always take it all away
[Bridge]
Well I know the storm's gonna come and it's gonna tear us apart
But can't you stay a little bit longer
[Pre-Chorus]
And promise me that you'll never say good-bye
'cause I can't bear to see you go
[Chorus]
And the rainbow collectors always take it all away
But the rainbow collectors always take it all away
But the rainbow collectors always take it all away
But the rainbow collectors always take it all away
[Outro]
Well I know the storm's gonna come and it's gonna tear us apart
But can't you stay a little bit longer
'cause I can't bear to see you go
'cause I can't bear to see you go
'cause I can't bear to see you go
I mean, the AI is not that good at scansion or rhyming, but the repetition in the chorus and the outro would probably work. And the lyrics actually almost make sense. With some tweaking this could turn into a real song. Maybe not actually Country, though.
Finally I tried a Goth song called "Horrible and Questionable" (inspired by the description of the scenario: "The A.I will generate the song of your dreams... or at least try to. May end up being horrible and sometimes, questionable. Other times, pretty awesome & lovely. What are you waiting for? Play this scenario immediately!"). And this one is outright hilarious.
Song Title: Horrible And Questionable
Genre: Goth
Lyrics:
[Verse 1]
Her name was Heather
When she was alive
And if I could go back and change one thing
It would be
I wish I never met you
[Chorus]
You were horrible and Questionable
You were slow and you stank
And I didn't like your fake smile
You were horrid and dumb
I wish you'd never came along
[Verse 2]
Her father's name was Frank
And he had an outhouse on his property
It's where we met
At least I think it was
I know it was terrible
[Chorus]
You were horrible and Questionable
You were slow and you stank
And I didn't like your fake smile
You were horrid and dumb
I wish you'd never came along
[Bridge]
And if I could go back in time
I wouldn't bother saving you
Not worth the effort
You couldn't appreciate the view
So I'm doomed to live in regret
[Chorus]
You were horrible and Questionable
You were slow and you stank
And I didn't like your fake smile
You were horrid and dumb
I wish you'd never came along
Maybe it's a little more punk, come to think of it, but it's still pretty fun. And still doesn't really rhyme or scan.
And that's all I have for now, children.
