Botober 8: Space Hamsters
Oct. 8th, 2020 10:44 pmThis one was just fun and quick, didn't sweat the backstory too much. Botober prompts for October 8 were:
Space Hamsters
The molehill appeared gradually in the lengthening dusk, and then two snouts poked out of it. "Is this the right place?" one of them whispered.
The other space hamster looked around. "Domesticated plants! Must be the right place!"
They both leapt out of the molehill and waved their tiny weapons about. "Nobody here!" the first space hamster (Treg) piped.
"Is the thing here?" the second space hamster (Friz) whistled.
They looked, without success. "What does it look like?" Treg asked after a while.
They consulted the document. "Ceramic...hollow inverted frustum...contains soil and vegetable matter," Friz read.
"Plenty of soil and vegetable matter here, but no ceramic frusta, inverted or otherwise," Treg said.
"Let's look behind the transparent shield!" Friz said. After some discussion about how to get around it, they merely melted some holes in it and crawled through those.
Inside, there were multiple inverted frusta. "Which one is it?" Treg asked.
"One of them!" Friz said.
They took turns hooking random frusta with their tractor guns and pulling them over. Most of them were on high surfaces and shattered.
A large quadruped came padding down to investigate the ruckus. Friz and Treg whirled and peppered it with stun beams until it recoiled into unconsciousness.
The last one they tried, on the highest surface, was the payoff. There was the hidden object they were supposed to find. "What is it?" Friz asked.
"Dunno," Treg said. "But it matches description!" He stuffed it in his cheeks.
They went back through the transparent shield, then Friz called down their ship, which looked just like one of the floating blobby things up in the sky. They climbed inside and zoomed off into space.
When Brigid came downstairs in the morning, the apartment was a mess. Broken flower pots everywhere, and Thor sleeping sprawled on the floor. "Bad dog!" she said, and Thor raised his head muzzily.
- Things: A space hamster (Two if you wouldn't mind)
- Concepts: Blobby things, ones not attached to the floor
- Advanced: A living potted plant not visible to you.
- Terrible: Molehills
