So, despite ample foot-dragging, I managed to get my 1,667-word quota done on the first day. 1,808 words, to be exact. Sometimes I do just the bare minimum, sometimes I try to get all the way up to 2,500 words, but it seemed like a good stopping point. I'm going back and forth between (at least) two characters, and that was a good place to switch.

I'm not sure of the timeline right now. One character is twelve at the moment, and I expect she will be at least eighteen by the time the main action starts. The other character's prologue may be somewhere in between. I'm not sure. Maybe I can make six years pass for her as well.

From previous experience I knew it was fruitless trying to withhold reward until I had done my quota. That doesn't work with me--I have to get my reward first, so that I can concentrate when I'm writing. I think of it as my Sim having its Fun bar up into the green before I go to work. (If Sims could use their computers to do writing, the Fun bar would definitely go down during the process. I'm not so sure they should be having fun painting, as a matter of fact. But I digress.)

The one character's name turned out to be "Tish" in the original story I'm cannibalizing, which is not a very evocative fantasy name, but I've decided to stick with it for now. The other one is "Éogyd", though I'm not sure if that accent will come across. I'm sure that when I first came up with the name(for a D&D character, at about age 10)I was trying to mix Eowyn with Gwydion, and that's what I got. At least her sister is no longer named Éowyn herself. No, now she's Téonyl.

That's another "T", I just realized, and I know that Éogyd and Téonyl's father is named Takil. Maybe I will have to change Tish. It does have an unfortunate anagram, too. Well, I'm not one of those people who refuses to let their characters change their names. If I have to change it later, I'll shoehorn it in.

The NaNoWriMo site has been pretty slow for the past couple of days, since I guess this is more stress testing than they've had before. A couple of slow(but popular)functions have been disabled for now, I guess.

I was very pleasantly surprised to see an old friend with whom I have shamefully fallen out of touch is taking part in the challenge this year. It'll be nice to see her again, and hopefully my Psychological Limitations* regarding expending any effort at keeping in touch with people will not bollix this up again.
