Mansard House Murders
Jan. 25th, 2006 09:21 pmRandom TV comments, hopefully spoiler-free...
So not only did John Spencer(Leo on "The West Wing")die, but now the show is apparently being canceled. I mean, the whole season is about setting up a new president to take over after Bartlet's second term ends, and after the election...the show ends? WTF? I just hope that they can resolve the whole Josh/Donna relationship thing before then, or I swear to god, I'll start writing fanfic. (As for this past week's episode...did anyone else totally picture a "24" episode going on in the background?)
Speaking of "24", the season is off to a bang-up start, though my wife and I really hate those four-hour miniseries season premieres they've started doing. (If you'd just premiere the show in the bloody fall like everyone else...) Sean Astin guest stars this season, and while he's a little unorthodox, I somehow sense that he groks Jack Bauer in a way that previous CTU administrators may not have. But Chloe is, as always, the best reason to watch. She is the most INTP character on television, I swear. Maybe a little more Asperger's than most, but still, I completely relate.
"How I Met Your Mother" may have finally gotten to the titular character, but I keep missing the beginning of the show, where the future offscreen dad is often talking to his children, so I'm not sure. "Drumroll Please" was a very sweet episode, though. As far as this household is concerned, this is the new "Friends". Though one wonders if Barney will ever manage to transform into anyone even remotely loveable, the way Joey did. In some ways, one hopes not, because he's just so funny as he is, and will make everyone forget the name "Doogie Howser".
"Scrubs" is also finally back, playing two episodes a night. Last night's two episodes were by no means equal. The second one had an uncomfortable dose of reality, as their wacky antics seemingly led to a patient's death(and the fact that they didn't is no credit to them)...but the first one had a screamingly funny "Wizard of Oz" motif that suddenly snapped into focus about halfway through. (Before then, it seemed so harmless that J.D. was listening to Toto, that Dr. Cox's feminine nickname for the day happened to be "Dorothy", that the janitor was painting coloured lines on the floor, that Turk was trying to get the position assisting at a heart transplant...) The show deserves daily reruns so I can watch it over and over and over...
My wife has actually gotten interested in a "reality" show--"Skating With Celebrities". I watched a bit of it on Monday night in between spots of election coverage, and I have to say that Kristy Swanson did quite well(and is looking quite hot, I might add!), though Debbie Gibson was a bit disappointing, and Bruce Jenner is my bet for swift elimination.
"Lost"...well, it's hard to avoid spoilers with that show, so I won't bother. I will share a Onion-oid headline that occurred to me the other day:
"Lost" Magic Numbers Chosen By National Lottery; Jackpot Split 214,304 Ways
