I feel like I should post something of substance one of these days, but instead I'll just post a quiz I bummed offa [livejournal.com profile] ali_kira:

[A is for age of first kiss:]
18.

[B is for booze of choice:]
I tend to like vodka, mixed with something that nullifies the taste. Though I confess a slight fondness for cherry whiskey. Everything else, except for the occasional sociable glass of wine, I strictly avoid.

[C is for career:]
"To hurtle uncontrollably in an unknown direction, often downhill." I suppose I've build up a career as a programmer these days. I'm not dedicated enough to writing to consider it a career. I'm still looking forward to someday taking up a career as a person of leisure.

[D is for your dad's name:]
Gary.

[E is for essential items to bring to a party:]
A book, and a cell phone. It's always nice to have something to read, and it can sometimes serve as a conversation piece. And if I'm attending without my wife, as I often do, she appreciates it if I can call her and tell her when I'm going to be home.

[F is for favorite song at the moment:]
At the moment? Nothing particularly current, but "The Way" by Fastball is currently tied with my longtime favourite, "Golden Boy" by Godley & Creme.

[G is for favorite game:]
At the moment, oddly enough, it's the "Freaky Factory" game on Neopets. Despite the fact that I hated it and considered it unplayable when I first tried it.

[H is for hometown:]
Grande Prairie will always be the place I grew up, but Edmonton is my hometown right now.

[I is for instruments you play:]
I used to play piano, and I took clarinet in band class. I like to sing, and I like to tap out a rhythm with my hands and fingers.

[J is for jam or jelly you like:]
I don't like jams or jellies, actually. Well, except for the occasional crabapple jelly, or maybe orange marmalade. Or lemon butter. But I don't have them more than once a year, really. I like plain peanut butter.

[K is for kids?]
Two, Luke and Simon. At the moment I'm not really considering any more. Reading Jared Diamond's Collapse has got me worrying anew about the population problem.

[L is for last kiss?]
Earlier today.

[M is for mom's name:]
Sheila.

[N is for name of your crush:]
Been a long time since I had one of those.

[O is for overnight hospital stays:]
Man, I don't remember any of those. Never broken a limb or anything. Probably when I had my tonsils out, which would've been at about age three or four.

[P is for phobias:]
I'm not real keen on heights, though looking out the window of an airplane is fine. Bugs, for the most part, I can't stand, unless they're really pretty, and in general unless they're tiny flies I won't even consider trying to touch them with any part of my own body. And if they're large enough to make out body parts the idea of squishing them is highly repugnant to me. ...I am so glad I live north of the cockroach line.

[Q is for quotes you like:]
Many, many. I especially like the ones that fit on one line or so, and I can put into my taglines file. If we're counting quotes from less than famous people I know from the net, there's:
"Now there's irony for you. You can't legally go out and buy pants unless you already have pants." -- Art Delano
If, on the other hand, you're looking for some kind of famous-person quote, I'd have to go with something like:
"The foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds." --Ralph Waldo Emerson, apparently, not Einstein like I vaguely thought it was.

[R is for relationship that lasted the longest]
16 years and counting.

[S is for sexual preference:]
I've never had any urge other than a straight one.

[T is for time you wake up:]
These days, my alarm is set for 6:50 AM, so that's when I wake up on weekdays. 7:00 proved to be not quite enough time to get Simon ready for his 7:45 bus, not without having to chivvy him along every single moment. On weekends it's more like 8:00(if I'm in charge of the boys when they wake up)and 9:00(if I'm not).

[U is for underwear:]
Briefs.

[V is for vegetable you love:]
Red cabbage is my current favourite. Every few weeks we'll buy one and I'll eat a few leaves from it a few times a week, sometimes as a snack while watching TV. I also like celery, radishes, and turnip sticks(but not cooked turnips, those are gross). Then there's corn, which is really a grain, isn't it? Broccoli is good with dip, because it sucks up so much of it. Carrots are good, but they're mostly just an old standby, unless they're fresh from the garden--ditto for peas. I also like most forms of potato(though not sweet potatoes, which are just camouflaged turnips).

[W is for worst habit:]
Oh, I'm sure I've got a number of them, depending on how you define "bad". Making puns, leaving my computer on when I'm not using it, driving an SUV to work all alone so that I can sing along with the tape deck, not cleaning the cat's litterbox often enough, procrastination, not cleaning anything in the house often enough, and many others.

[X is for x-rays you've had:]
Just dental x-rays.

[Y is for yummy food you make:]
I don't cook if I can possibly avoid, but I seem to recall that when I was forced to I could make a decent lasagne, meatloaf or mashed potatoes.

[Z is for zodiac sign:]
Cancer. I did an actual horoscope for myself once, to see if it was any more accurate, and came to the conclusion that I could pick and choose enough to make it fit pretty much anything.
