Ganked from
cdk, naming my favourite song from a number of different artists/genres. (Who came up with this list, anyway? Can we add on to it?)
Favorite Beatles song: "Within You, Without You", or possible "Blackbird".
Favorite solo song by a former Beatle: Kind of tough, but I'd have to go with "Take It Away" by Paul McCartney.
Favorite Rolling Stones song: "Continental Drift"
Favorite Bob Dylan song: "Like A Rolling Stone"
Favorite Pixies song: I've barely listened to them, but I'll say "Mr. Grieves"
Favorite Prince song: "When Doves Cry", though I also like "7" and "Mountains"
Favorite Michael Jackson song: "Smooth Criminal"
Favorite Metallica song: "Enter Sandman"
Favorite Public Enemy song: Don't have one. Never particularly liked them.
Favorite Depeche Mode song: "Halo"
Favorite Cure song: "Lullaby"
Favorite song that most of your friends haven't heard: "You're Out of The Computer" by Bingo Gazingo & My Robot Friend
Favorite Beastie Boys song: "Sure Shot", I guess. Not a big fan of theirs either.
Favorite Police song: Hard to narrow it down--"Darkness", "Synchronicity", or "Invisible Sun"
Favorite Sex Pistols song: Don't have one.
Favorite song from a movie: Aw, c'mon, how'm I supposed to grep for that one? Probably "Uninvited" by Alanis Morissette, from "City of Angels". Or the opening theme from "The Cook, The Thief, His Wife & Her Lover". Or do concert movies count? Because there's songs from "Rattle & Hum" and "Stop Making Sense" that I could count...
Favorite Blondie song: "Rapture"
Favorite Genesis song: "Throwing It All Away"
Favorite Led Zeppelin song: Don't really have one. "Kashmir", I guess.
Favorite INXS song: "Burn For You"
Favorite Weird Al song: "The Biggest Ball of Twine In Minnesota"
Favorite Pink Floyd song: "Remember A Day"
Favorite cover song: John Cale's version of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah". (Kicks ass on Rufus Wainwright and Jeff Buckley's versions, and let's not even mention Bono's.)
Favorite dance song: "True Faith" by New Order. Because I definitely remember going to bars playing a bunch of cheesy dance music and suddenly a New Order song would come on and I'd suddenly be enjoying myself, and maybe even get up and dance.
Favorite U2 song: Oh, man, this is hard to narrow down. "The Unforgettable Fire", "Until The End of The World", "All I Want Is You", "Bad", "Hawkmoon 269"... One of those.
Favorite disco song: "Heart of Glass", Blondie. Or maybe "Voodoo Lady", Ween.
Favorite The Who song: Don't really have one. "I Can See For Miles", I guess, or "Behind Blue Eyes"(though I like the verison on "Scoop" better).
Favorite Elton John song: "Candle In The Wind", but not the stupid Lady Diana version.
Favorite Clash song: "Train In Vain"
Favorite David Bowie song: "Time Will Crawl"
Favorite Nirvana song: "Smells Like Teen Spirit" is still okay, I guess.
Favorite Snoop Dogg song: Shudder. Actually, I kind of enjoyed "Murder Was The Case" when I didn't know who it was.
Favorite Ice Cube song: Can I pick Ice T instead? Because I swear I don't know any of this Cube guy's.
Favorite Johnny Cash song: "Ring of Fire"
Favorite R.E.M. song: "King of Birds"
Favorite Elvis song: "It's Now Or Never" is the one that I hate the least.
Favorite cheesy-ass country song: "Fishing In The Dark" by the Nitty Gritty Dirty Band, perhaps? Or "Rhumba Girl" by Evangeline.
Okay, I'm going to add a few of my own:
Favourite song from a musical: "The Miller's Son", from "A Little Night Music"
Favourite They Might Be Giants song: "Narrow Your Eyes"
Favourite Eurythmics song: "I've Got An Angel"
Favourite Rush song: "Second Nature"
I'll refrain from adding Suzanne Vega, Bruce Cockburn, Go Four 3 or Godley & Creme. Because I'm a nice guy.

Date: 2005-10-18 02:38 am (UTC)I've listened to the Beatles for so long that it's almost a case of "familiarity breeds contempt", and I've been trying recently to determine which of their songs I actually like. I never did like their pre-"Rubber Soul" stuff that much, with a few exceptions like "Help!" and "I Feel Fine". But as a kid I just listened to it, mostly without evaluating it.
